Online Support for Alzheimer’s and Dementia
October 3, 2014Thank you so much for your overwhelming support. The Genius of Caring is bringing together people affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia from all over the country, and beyond. It is so encouraging to read the many stories just like ours. We can’t wait to expand upon this project and feature other personal portraits and perspectives.
Our Kickstarter Campaign is counting down its final 4 days. And thanks to all of our caring and generous supporters, we are so close to our goal.
Because of the deeply personal nature of this site and the nontraditional way we’ve chosen to share our story and others, The Genius of Caring has the potential to shift the way we talk about illness and loss and to start a conversation about these issues on a large scale.
This project is incredibly close to our hearts. Alzheimer’s and dementia touch so many lives, yet so often the diseases create a crushing sense of isolation. Today 5.4 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and 15 million people are acting as caregivers. As these numbers rise, so does the burden on families and on our already fragile health care system. But despite the numbers of people dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, shame and stigma still prevent us from talking openly about its impact. We know the geniusofcaring.com can help change that.
Alzheimer’s and Dementia in the Spotlight at BitTorrent
In other news, we’ve recently partnered with BitTorrent.com to create the Genius of Caring BitTorrent Bundle. Just like the Genius of Caring, BitTorrent bundles use transmedia to increase audience interaction and engagement. Bundles also allow content creators to engage directly with their audiences.
Banker did an interview with BitTorrent that talks about the unconventional manner we chose to bring the conversation about Alzheimer’s and dementia out of the shadows and into the public eye. You can read the whole interview here.
