Bio
I am 67,married with 5 grown children. I retired a little over a year ago to resume my full time art career. I've worked over fifty years to get to this point and hope to have some time to paint and create. Last year I created something every week. This year is proving to be even more prolific. The journey of creativity has been a real privilege. I volunteer once a week at a memory care unit in order to draw one on one with them. It is difficult because the visual tradition in our culture is so very weak. Most of us give up visually by the time we are 11 or 12. It is very hard to reconnect. The realization that memory is so visual pushes me forward. My mother was diagnosed early with alzheimers, by about 65. By 77 she was gone. She experienced a lot of stress in her early life. My dad was career Navy. That often was very stressful. To say the least, her telomeres probably took a beating. I have been a life-long athlete, running long distance for over thirty years. now, I am an avid cyclist, usually getting over 100 miles per week. This has been part of my long term strategy to deal with aging. That and walking the dogs every day.
