I am a wife, homeschooling mother of three, and caregiver to a father with Dementia with Lewy Body and Multiple Symptom Atrophy
Which of these best describes you?
I am a caregiver - I have been a caregiver to my father for over 10 years when he was 65. When he turned 70, we picked him up every night for dinner and he would spend the night, then go home until the next evening. At 73, he moved in full time. Now we share a home together, and my husband helps in the duties, along with wonderful aides.
If your loved one was experiencing signs of dementia, would you keep it a secret?
No - Not anymore. I tried covering up my dad's health decline for so long. It took a lot of energy trying to make him appear better than he was. I somehow wanted to protect his dignity, and everyone else's heart from knowing. But ended up taking all the pain on myself.
Who are you here for?
The thing I miss most is...
- I miss seeing my father be able to do things on his own. I don't miss it for me. I miss it for him.
